Social Worker Month is March in the US and July in UK, but my philosophy on this is the same as for Mothers Day. Just as Mothers Day is EVERY DAY, appreciation month for healthcare professionals who care for us and our loved ones is EVERY MONTH!
Just as parents arrange care for their children, many social workers, also called geriatric care managers, arrange for the care of our precious elderly. A big part of their service is finding good reliable help that is qualified, competent, and compassionate. The social worker needs to be able to evaluate the capability of the home health aide who will be on site when they are not. There is no room for error with the elderly who are often quite defenseless. Home care agencies have the same concerns and the best ones are adept at hiring the very best aides.
These aides are in the front lines of care, often alone. Importantly, they need to be able to handle any situation that arises in the capacity of a first responder. If their client falls, they need to have the presence of mind to call an 911 immediately.
Home health aides need all the support in the field they can get. To that end, we have created another in our series of useful DYA publications: Emergency Medical Information. All the essential medical information is assembled in one handy document. This is a card that they can grab and go with should they need to hop into a cab or ambulance with their clients.
Our DYA Publications Series of Home Care Tools
We will be incorporating this into our DYA protocol during the initial Nurse’s Assessment and it will be hung on the client’s refrigerator along with the care plan. Please feel free to download it and share it with whomever may benefit from it.
New Download: EMERGENCY MEDICAL INFORMATION
We are happy to present our latest in a series of tools to improve the quality of life for our clients and their families. This latest publication, Emergency Medical Information, is a handy grab and go card. It can be handed to any medical personnel in the event of an emergency. We invite you to download it and fill it out for all your loved ones. We will be including it in our initial Nurse’s Assessment and she will hang it on the client’s refrigerator along with the care plan. Please feel free to download it and share it with whomever may benefit from it.
David York Agency takes pride in the fact that we hire the very best aides there are!
We are extremely fussy about the aides the hire. Aides give hands on care to a vulnerable client and they must be up to the job. At the same time, they need to be compassionate and caring. We also work with some very fine geriatric care managers.
Our family is a family run agency and we are guided by the principle that we would not sent anyone into your home that we would not want in ours. We also give a thorough orientation to new aides and help them keep up their training with in-service classes. Of course, we are a phone call away from them with support and advice. Our aides often say that they appreciate the backing and advice David York Agency provides them, even more than other agencies they have worked for.
In honor of Good Care Month, I have chosen the following blog posts to help and inform:
