May has been designated Older Americans Month by the Administration for Community Living (ACL), a government agency dedicated to enabling all people regardless of their age or disability to live independently and in their own communities.
ALIGNED CORE BELIEFS
That mission is completely consonant with our agency’s values which has always included these
core beliefs:
- We believe that the elderly and disabled have the right to age and be cared for in familiar surroundings in the comfort of their home.
- David York Agency, Ltd. was founded on the principle that the aged, infirm and disabled are entitled to the opportunity to live their lives with dignity and meaning.
- Our mission is to furnish the highest quality home care service with the highest degree of personal service.
OLDER AMERICANS MONTH
Older Americans Month was established to recognize the contributions that our seniors continue to make and to address any concerns they have as they continue to age so that they may thrive. This year’s emphasis revolves around connections and relationships.
To fully promote this theme, I would encourage you to inspire older adults to share what connection means to them when speaking to them. Tell them how you sincerely want to hear more about their history and accomplishments. Ask them to share their experiences.
Encourage them to go out and socialize, pursue a hobby, get together with friends. If that is not possible or practical, help them use social media enjoy these things. Additionally, if you use the hashtag #PoweredByConnection on social media, a wealth of ideas should pop up as well.
CELEBRATING SENIORS
To celebrate our elderly, this newsletter is a reminder of the services that DYA provides to support the independence of our senior population as they strive to remain a vibrant force in society. Also included is a digest of blog posts we have published regarding connecting while aging in place.
Furthermore, since we have covered many of these issues extensively in the past, please feel free to search for even more information on a topic of interest in the search box in the upper right corner of our website. I would also love any feedback you may have.
Always here to help,
