Falls Prevention in the elderly day

On this Falls Prevention Day, I wanted to pass along a few tools to make sure our precious elderly are safe. Both valuable checklists are available below:

10 Tips for Preventing Falls in the Elderly

Millions of older adults experience falls so severe that they need to visit the emergency room – and thousands are fatal. It is critical for older adults and their families to take precautions to prevent falls and avoid injuries. The following are 10 tips for preventing falls in the elderly.

There are physical & environmental
causes to consider….

Regular exercise.
Move slowly.
Seek medical care for dizziness.
Review your medications.
Avoid clutter.
Be sure your home is well-lit.
Install grab bars.
Use a non-skid bath mat.
Wear rubber-soled shoes.
Avoid loose clothing.

Elderproofing Your Home Checklist – Free Download

As people age, the homes that were once a source of security can become a danger. Many seniors would much prefer to stay in their own home. This means we must make changes to their surroundings in order to keep them safe.
